JLI - The Jewish Learning Institute

The Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) has been created in the tradition of teachers establishing bonds with students pursuing intellectual and spiritual growth in their adult years. JLI courses are designed for students ranging from first-time learners to those with years of prior study. The Institute follows a powerful path of discovery and depth, touching the Jewish soul of its learners. Participants in JLI courses share an experience of such magnitude that many form lasting ties of close friendship and community.

What is JLI?

JLI is the Adult Education branch of Chabad Lubavitch. It offers programs in more than 1,000 locations in the U.S. and abroad, including numerous foreign chapters in Australia, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Venezuela.

Founded on the understanding that people have different minds and different learning modalities, JLI incorporates personalization, visual aids, text analysis, peer discussion, learning activities, lectures, and more, to address each student’s emotional, procedural, exploratory, and analytical learning styles. JLI is not only the largest network of Jewish adult education, it is also unparalleled among other Jewish institutions for its use of cutting-edge pedagogic techniques to unlock the wisdom and life-messages found within Judaism’s ancient texts.

JLI prides itself in its promise of “an aha! moment in every lesson,” and according to JLI’s central offices in Brooklyn, participants have come to expect this, which they say explains their unusually high return rate from course to course. The courses have become synonymous with Jewish wisdom that is relevant to people’s lives, regardless of background or affiliation.

JLI’s six-session courses are offered concurrently in 360 communities and that includes right here in Tenafly!

All JLI courses are open to the entire Jewish community, and people do not need to be a member of any particular synagogue or temple in order to attend.

Interested students may call 201.871.1152 opt. 5 ext. 501 or visit www.myJLI.com for registration and other course-related information. JLI courses are presented at Lubavitch on the Palisades with Rabbi Shain.
